Have a max budget of 500 though im not specific trying to spend the full 500. Im just trying to find the best bike possible within that budget. Its going to be abused in the woods, mild downhill, lots of tree roots. Sadly the ghost lector 18 was sold. Yes i know picture 2 is fuzzy.. but its what ive got.
Chatgpts breakdown.
Title: 2019 Merida Big Seven Carbon XT vs. 2015 Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon (SID Brain)
I'm comparing these two bikes and could use some advice. Here is the breakdown:
1. (400)
2019 Merida Big Seven Carbon XT
Weight: Very light (approx. 10.5 – 10.8 kg)
Wheels: 27.5 inch (Agile and quick acceleration)
Groupset: Full Shimano XT (Modern 1×11 or 2×11, very reliable)
Standards: Likely uses Boost spacing (easier for modern parts)
Ride: Modern geometry, great for fast and technical XC tracks.
2. (340)
2015 Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon
Weight: Extremely light (approx. 9.5 – 10.2 kg depending on the exact build)
Wheels: 29 inch (Better for rolling over obstacles/roots)
Fork: RockShox SID with Brain (Auto-lockout tech)
Performance: High-end racing pedigree, but older geometry and non-boost hubs.
Maintenance: The Brain fork is amazing but requires specialist servicing.
The Dilemma:
The Merida is newer, easier to maintain, and has a very solid weight for a 2019 bike. However, the Specialized is a legendary featherweight racer with 29er wheels.
What would be the best bike if these are my only options? 1 or 2? I lm done scouring. My biggest criteria is weight though.
Im really sorry for the clutter i know people not necessarily like it but i need to cut a knot. Quick.

Merida for sure. Parts and geometry from the specialised are completely outdated.
Get the Specialized 29 ” er.
Brain shocks are no longer serviced, avoid any bike with them.
I don’t think that Merida is a 2019 bike. It looks to have M780 Series XT on it, which was discontinued in 2015
