Hi!

In my most recent adventure, I loaded the van with my kit and headed for Scotland. Packed with more than enough stuff for a 4 day trip, my folding chair and a hip flask of whisky I was excited to get back out there.

I cycled just over 200km inspired by a route I got from Charlie Loves Gravel (check out her channel, it’s ace). My plans were never going to be set in stone, allowing me to change and adapt as much as I wanted or needed.

I visited Ben Alder Forest for a camp in the mountains, Corrour Station for dinner and breakfast, Rannoch Station and other amazing places along the way. I aimed for the camp spots, rather than completing a route in a certain time limit.

It’s been a while since I’ve been out, out, and it was becoming easy to not bother or make the effort. This trip has reignited the love of bikepacking and exploring again – I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I was there.

  1. I'm very familiar with the routes and areas you rode in having bikepacked in the Ben Alder and Ardverikie estastes for years. What more could you want, beautiful scenery and lots of fit women wearing close fitting legwear. 😉 PS.. It is the first bridge.

  2. Thanks Allen for another brilliant inspirational video. You had some competition given I have Netflix Discovery + etc but none of them had anything to compete with you. I once walked a short length of the West Highland Way from Fort William and it made me realise you need to get out into the wilds to see the real beauty of Scotland. You've now got me thinking of cycling a short route up there.

  3. Superb video, bro. Thank you for highlighting what we have here. We are so lucky, yet so many natives never experience it's beauty. Still, I thank you.

  4. Great video buddy… Glad I stumbled across your channel. New sub from me. Thanks for reminding me how much I love this area….. It's been at least a year since I've visited. Now planning a trip based on your footage 😉

  5. Que mes del año es? Me gustaría ir en julio/agosto pero la lluvia siempre me para y dicen que en escocia llueve mucho en Julio…
WHAT month of the season is It? I want to go there but alwais I chosse another places at the end, they said that july is not a good time to travel on bike there…

    Congratulations…. fantástic work…thank you for the inspiration…

  6. Some paved roads have a very rough surface which is horrible to ride over due to all the vibration.

In the highlands , what percentage of paved roads would you say are like this as opposed to smooth?

The reason I ask , is trying to determine whether touring is Scotland using paved roads is vialable on a sports recumebent trike with 28mm tyres or whether it would be a horrible experience and require the touring trike with 47mm tyres and suspension.

How many miles a day do you cycle in the highlands?

  7. I really enjoyed this. Brought back memories of routes I’ve bikepacked myself over the years. I’ve yet to tackle Rannoch Station to Glencoe (passing Loch Laidon). There’s about 3km of hike a bike bog hopping in the middle tho.

  8. Love this, and love your positive attitude to life! Would be very happy to cross paths with you on the road some time. I'm planning a month long bike trip around Scotland atm and the route you took looked ace. What time of year did you go? And do you have any recommendations for routes I should go on? All the best 🙂

  9. I think that section in Corour estate through the woods is one of the fanciest bits of 'gravel' I've ever ridden, could have taken an F1 car along it. Cracking video, lots of inspiration

  10. Was great to see you at Courror station. That was a really wet and windy night! Can't believe it was nearly a year ago already. Thanks for another great video Allen. 😀
