  1. Little known fact about this incident, Max’s crew chief had not supervised the changes made to bike before that race. The engine tech on Max’s crew used to be a big deal at Aprilia, and had taken Max’s departure from same extremely personal. He bided his time and eventually got onto Max’s new crew. Having gained the trust of Max’s new crew chief, was trusted to carry out the changes to the bike before this race. He had been tasked with installing the red powerband. Seeking revenge for Max’s departure from the Italian scooter manufacturer years before, he instead installed the purple powerband!! He knew Max’s personality very well of course, and Max’s proclivity for rubbing his competitions noses in the excrement of his success, and then waited for Max to completely yard sale that inferior machine in front of the entire world while pulling that wheelie. Max’s otherworldly skills allowed the seemingly catastrophic wheelie to appear planned. If you have seen the movie “Valkyrie “, you know the fate of that former Aprilia engine tech.

  2. max was crazy, he would have been number, unfortauntely , there were always slightly more talented people around with better mental states that beat his pants off repeatedly

  3. Thats not a great wheelie… Its almost effin it up and saving it in a world class manor… The wheelie king is the guy, Biaggi hates more than anybody else. 😀

  4. I met Max while filming an Alpine Star commercial (I was essentially his stunt double). I brought him a print of this for him to sign, which he did, but then said, “I wish I could forget this moment.” I felt a little bad for bringing it up.
