I want to build my own bike, that i want to use for commute, but can also take it out for a gravel ride if the opportunity presents itself.
Because of me wanting to use the bike for predominantly commuting purposes, i was thinking of putting a “chain guard” on my front chainring, as i am struggling with not being able to wear any other color that black or ill come to work with a big black stain on my pant.
Does anyone know where i can find such an object? Ive been trying to look for it everywhere and cannot find anything. Any suggestions?

Have you tried rolling up your pants?
Sks chainbow or move to wax as your lube
For something more minimalist than the chainbow, you can also google ‘bash guard’ or ‘bash ring.’ It’s what MTBers call it, they tend to be cheap, and should provide your calf some protection.
Easy fix would be a Velcro ankle strap to wrap around your pants.
Tuck your pants into your socks for the ride. Keeps them from getting caught, plus it’s a little warmer anyway. That’s what I did when I rode around in the city years ago.
You could also take a page out of the 80s and pinch-roll:

If you’re building, you can find “Urban” or “Commuter” cranksets that have the guard too. [https://bike.shimano.com/en-SG/components/urban/category/crankset.html](https://bike.shimano.com/en-SG/components/urban/category/crankset.html)
I just use Squirt wax lube and this is never a problem.
I like the BBG ones and have used them on a couple different bikes.

I was very confused when the gravel bike I bought came with one. I took it off immediately. I got the bike from REI during the pandemic (the only place I could find my size/model), so maybe it’s just something they do.
Well the real question is it a 2x or one. Bolt circle helps.
When I switched to one ring for cross way back before narrow wide stuff you could buy toothless rings to take the outside ring. I lived somewhere pretty flat so my daily also got the same treatment.
