Probably that you didn’t have your limit screws adjusted correctly and a bump of sorts made your derailleur drop into the spokes. Spokes pull and bend cheap derailleur and boom here we are.

I had this happen. Derailer got caught in the spokes and was ‘taken for a ride’.
If it is a cheap bike, you might have to replace a lot of parts.
