  1. Why are you not using a pressure washer for stuff like the wheel with the insides taken out? I understand why you wouldn’t use it on things with bearings (or other lubricated parts) installed.

  2. My parents bought me a Raleigh Record 10 speed back in 1977. It was my reward for getting A+ on the French final exam. It was big deal as my dad was out of work at the time and the bike cost $130. It was my first and only bike, I never had another. Have very fond memories of that bike.

  3. I have two lovely bikes almost identical to this in my shop right now, but in much better condition.

It is an absolute pleasure to restore these bikes. I had a Raleigh Postman's bike with rod brakes once. It's gone now😢

    Cheers from Texas 👍

  4. I sent you an email with pics of my labors of love just now.

Do you have a good source for tires? I want whitewalls for the gold bike, black and tans for the black bike.

  5. I work as a volunteer mechanic in a local Community initiative – Drosi Bikes in Llangollen. Our ethos is to save bikes from landfill and restore them for community groups and resale… so I've worked on some old bikes but never had the confidence to take a Sturmey- Archer hub to pieces after seeing an exploded diagram!! Thanks for the video it was a great watch and very inspiring.

  6. That was an epic rebuild on that classic bike, definitely worthy of a spot on The Repair Shop! Great to see the strip down of the gears and dynamo on the rear hub. It’s not something you would see nowadays and many younger viewers would need to have that explained to them. Great video and detailed explanations. Best wishes from Fife.

  7. What an amazing restoration yet again. The magic you work on old commuter bicycles warms my heart to see. Also what a cool dynamo! was that a package option for these raleigh’s?

  8. I like the work you do. you are very through . but their are two things I would do differently. Steel wool or wire wool as you call it will leave tiny little scratches that dull the chrome if used too much. Aluminium foil will
cut the rust but will not scatch the chrome. and second I would wash the frame set before reassembling the head set so as not to contaminate the bearing grease.

  9. Love your videos. I happen to have this bike. But it was in much better condition when I got it. I am wanting to replace the handlebars grips but I can't get the original grips off. I don't want to damage them. In the video it looks like you just use a wrench or pliers and pull them off. But they won't budge on mine. Any tips? Did you use heat or something? Any help is appreciated. Time stamp 08:35 ish

  10. Do you have any tips for preserving chrome wheel rims and preventing the tiny rust spots from spreading? I have used chrome polish but I'm not entirely convinced by it.

  11. Lee's disassembly and reassembly of the 3-speed hub is an epic in itself. Thanks to these videos, his tremendous mechanical knowledge and unwavering zeal can be showcased for future generations.

  12. I do like that you don't repaint these bikes and try to make them look like new, but rather while making them shine as much as posible still allow them to show their age. These old girls have earned the right to show the miles they've done while still looking good.

  13. I’m so excited that you walked through working on the sturmey archer 3 speed rebuild! I live across the way in the states, and have a 1960s English 3 speed that needs some more love. I’m not sure how the pair ended up here, but I love riding it ❤

  15. Oh I enjoyed every second of this restoration work… what a beauty! I learnt a lot. This helps me a lot to service my old Raleigh DL-1 here in Chile. Thanks for sharing all your craftmanship to us. Cris.
