You can cycle from Kew in south west London to Shepherd’s Bush in west London entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.

The route is 7km long (4.4 miles) and makes use of Cycleway 9, as well as other quiet streets.

  1. Great video as always. A couple of snippets. The plans for C9 upgrade along Hammersmith Rd were originally consulted upon in 2017 as the current implementation is essentially a temporary design put in after Covid. The C9 upgrade is therefore putting in the design as originally intended, which has a bi-directional lane along the N side of Hammersmith Rd with a crossover near Kensington Olympia. The original plans can probably be found online somewhere… (but I have a copy!). Also not cycling related, but British Grove is the location of Mark Knopfler's recording studio so not unusual to come across well known musicians in the area!

  2. Nice video, thanks.
I cycled through the same route in Chiswick once weekly. Most of the time the cycle path is not crowded and comfortable at whole day.

  3. Another great video Looked a nice day apart from the rain on the ground. There were some sections in the earlier part of the video that looked like you needed your wits about you – buses lorries cars on the cycle the cycle way. Maybe a lot better when they get a cylce way the full length. Thanks.

  4. I'll keep hoping that Tfl force Kensington and Chelsea to build lanes along Kensington High Street. Would love to see it one day!

  5. Thanks, very useful. I work near Kew and might try this route next time I want to get into the centre from there. The only difficult bit is just before where you start – getting through the junction at Kew Green is very difficult and I haven't yet found a good alternative. If you were cycling from Richmond via Kew Road to Kew Bridge, which way would you go?

  6. Be careful approaching the lights before crossing to Shephers Bush Green. As the traffic has to turn left, the design has a feeder lane to the right giving access to the bike box, keeping cyclists clear of the turning traffic. You probably missed it as the lorry was partly obscuring it. Thanks for the video.

  7. for confident cyclists, a lot of Shepherd's Bush Road has a bus lane from 7-10am and 4-7pm … which is quite handy.
also, there's a decent public library just up Wood Lane from the end of your video!

  8. Looks pretty good to me. Again, another route I will try out in due course. Thanks for posting.
Loved that bit about the van overtaking, as the driver needed to get in the traffic jam quickly ! 😂😂

  9. What is the best way to get a road two way for bikes?

As upper Cheyne row & bramerton street should definitely have that.

I now use both & Quill Lane despite the 🚳 signs cause Putney high street is ridiculous and charlwood has a gate sending 🚲 into a wonky gutter NO x

  10. I don't know why you didn't turn left into the road named Ravenscourt Park, where you can cycle through the park.

You come out onto Paddinswick Road, straight across into Wellesley Avenue, left into Dalling Road, right into Brackenbury Road, turn 1st left into Benbow Road, and turn left at the end into Hammersmith Grove.

You finish either at Shepherd's Bush Market Station or a bit further on is Shepherd's Bush Green.

Your route takes you too far East only to have to come back West. My route is shorter too!

  11. they need to mark that pavement on kew bridge – i often get abuse from pedestrians who have no clue and don't see the very sporadic blue signs

  12. 1:09 Kew Bridge designated shared pavement – is that recent? I don't live near Kew, but I did cycle over the bridge about a decade ago and wish I'd known I hadn't had to do so on the road!

  13. Thanks for this useful video! Part of my commute would greatly benefit from the route you took here so I’m keen to try it out. I’m also excited about the segregated cycle lanes they are building in Wood Lane.

  14. Great videos! I think the cycle lane improvements on Lambeth Bridge might be finished? Any chance of a video from both ends of the bridge please
