this might not be in the main stream of xbiking posts, but i present the wonderful, new to me and my wife, recently reconditioned, burley "rock n roll" tandem with softride.
i picked this up really cheap and went thought the whole thing: all bearing, new chains, cleaned up everything, new breakpad, cables, housing, tires. everything else is original: grips full suntour components, including really funky rear "suntour SE XC" cantilever brake. SE stands for self energizing. they are adjusted with a cone wrench to set the spring tension. i dont understand them.
(bonus as to why im extra excited about this bike. my wife never learned to ride a bike. so tandems are a thing for us. i just sold a really nice cannondale road bike tandem which i spent much bigger money than i do on things. but it didnt work for us, because i couldnt control things at slower speeds if her balance was not great. even more than just not having a natural sense of bike balance, she also doesnt really put her weight on the pedals for bumps. obviously its not a nice way to ride, so…… softride to the rescue!)

That’s a pretty cool looking tandem. so, off topic a bit but have you considered getting your wife a balance bike? making one, temporarily, I mean. I’m going to help one of the neighbor’s teenagers who did not learn cycling as a tyke. I will strip the crank and chain off of a full size bike for their learning period. it seems like a good idea for helping an adult learn, but I’ve never heard it talked about.
