Ok so this was a year long project but it's finally done. I've already taken it on several rides despite only having only a rear brake because I am waiting for a disc brake adapter haha, I just couldn't wait.

Some stats:

– Around £450 including frame and all parts, other than the fancy G3ared crank which they sent me for free.

– 20" wheels up to 2.25" wide tyres

– 27 speeds. 11-46T 9 speed cassette and G3ared 3 speed crank that works like a sturmey archer internal gear hub. 750% gear range from 15.2" to 113.9"

– Will weigh less than 15kg with a rack

– Part list here.

Check picture captions for more details but I essentially scavenged a steel mountain bike frame and brazed it onto the cut off section of a Brompton triangle. And I modified a 20" mini velo fork. To get the low price I bought a cheap Brompton and I parted it out, I actually made money off the frame and still have some spare parts!

I am building it as part of Bespoked's Apocalypse Build Off, you can read about it here. I love working within arbitrary constraints and this just tickles that part of my brain haha

If you want to see how it was done, I made a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU5H_IaYm_k

  1. Oh also a couple other specs:
    – the wheelbase is 113cm vs 105cm for C line and 110cm for G line
    – the bottom bracket height is 36cm vs 28 and 29cm for the C and G line respectively.

I think the high BB will work in my favour for the type of riding I want to do on this bike so it’s not really a downside.
