I just picked up a Trek Farley and have done some snowy/ slushy riding with it, and then a day on fairly dry trails. While I will most likely use it primarily during the winter or really muddy conditions, I figure I might ride it on dry single track occasionally. My worry is tire pressure. I know that I can go 5-8psi for snow, but am concerned about denting rims on dry trails, especially as I will probably ride it aggressively by habit. I seem to break a rim about once a year on my enduro bike, but those have warranties. As a 200 lb rider, is 10-12 psi enough in the dry? I feel like any more and I should just ride a different bike.

    Experiment. I’m the same weight. I ride a gravel bike and a fat bike, so the fat bike is essentially all I ride on real trails. I’ve never dented a rim. I also have no idea what psi I run—I just go by feel. I ride mostly blues and blacks and it’s fine fully rigid. There are no flow trails here. Just take it out and see how it goes. You can always air up or down on the trail.
