I do it too sometimes. But I live in a very safe area. I expect that people have a point when they say they’d rather take it with them, and indeed I do too when it’s possible.

I do this all the time. Since the advent of the electric bicycle, it’s not the main prize for thieves anymore.

I do too, but lock through the triangle so a thief needs more than some wrenches to take it

On the rare occasion when you cannot take the Brompton inside with you, I strongly recommend that you take the two hinge clamps with you. That way, the bike will be unrideable.

Angle grinder would take 10s with that type of lock. It’s probably worth investing in a diamond lock or litelok. That said if you have bike insurance, it probably doesn’t matter much what type of u lock you use.

I do this often. It’s sometimes a pain in the ass to lug my heavy/dirty C line into certain establishments and you look silly doing it.
Some people in this sub really hate the idea of doing this, and I assume it probably depends on where you live (London for example).
For me, I live in a medium sized city with some crime, but not overwhelmingly bad. I always use a decent U lock (sometimes combined with a cable), lock it in visible areas, fold up the rear so I can lock through the frame and wheel, and don’t leave it for more than a few hours. Never had any issues with it, although I would probably be more careful if I had a more expensive model.

Just be smart about it and know your city
