  1. That chainring is not removable, it is part of the crank arm. You would need a new crank arm and chainring combination. That chainring pic you included is for a different style of crankset and is not compatible.

  2. I see a new square taper crank in your future. They’re very common and inexpensive.

    Ring is attached to the crank. Cannot be removed or replaced. You replace the whole crankset.

  4. You can see the problem by searching for ‘144 bcd crank arm’. A crank that has a removable chainring has a starfish built into it. 

  5. The first picture is a chainring that is permanently attached to crank. They are machined separately and then pounded together (swaged). 

    The attachment involves starting with a pretty tight fit, and then hammering around the back of the crank to spread the metal for a firmly tight fit. 

    It might be an interesting metalwork experiment if you already have a good hammer and anvil… but the safer approach is to upgrade the crank to one with a bolt on chain ring.
