I just got a Schwalbe Magic Mary Trail Pro Ultrasoft 29×2.5 and before mounting I noticed some serious overrun around the entire middle of the tire. It also has a LOT of odd minor defects on the tread. Almost like it looks melted or slightly underfilled the mold.
I’m not just talking about a few weird lugs. It’s probably 10% that are slightly misshapen and the “seam” is the highest I’ve even seen by a lot.
Am I being overly critical here? Should I just mount it, ride it, and not worry about it? Pics in comments to abide by the rules.

I’d contact schwalbe before install. Mold defect
go shred them down using a trail.
Contact them, they’ll send you a new tire
I had this on my shredda. Was thinking about contacting schwalbe but I just said fuck it and sent them.
I’d probably just ride it. An ultra soft will look much worse than that after a month
The flashing in the middle isn’t important in itself but suggests the mold might not have fully closed. That can cause low pressure/low fill.
I’d contact schwalbe and pretty much expect a replacement. That said, it’s probably absolutely fine to use. But tyres aren’t cheap and should be right
Let Schwalbe know, enjoy a free tire and use this one anyway.
Thanks all, I appreciate the input! Started a warranty claim. Let’s see what happens.
I was definitely on the fence about it. Ultimately my concern is if there’s that much rubber in places it’s not supposed to be, and that little rubber in places it is supposed to be… maybe the tire isn’t quite as safe as it should be.
Ride it a bit, see how it looks then.
