The route from Rome to Brindisi is known as Francigena-Sud. Its also part of a much longer pilgrimage route that goes to Jerusalem. The original Via Francigena route, as outlined by bishop Sigeric, the Serious, over a thousand years ago, was from Canterbury to Rome. It was actually based on his return journey on foot from Rome to Canterbury after he received his Pallium from the Pope in 990. The part from London was added later, following some of the Pilgrims' Way route from Southwark Cathedral in London. but it also doesn't fully mach the EuroVelo route there, I think. So I don't understand how the leaders of the EuroVelo project chose these routes and why they use the same title, considering it does not follow historical records.
