Hi,

my Canyon Endurace Allroad arrived today, and after assembling it I’m a bit unsure whether the shifting is set up correctly.

First, there’s this sticker in the picture with the transparent tolerance range (?). According to AI the lower edge of the front derailleur should align with the upper line, which it currently doesn’t. Is that correct?

Also, there is a lot of rubbing when using the small chain ring with the smallest rear cog, even with the second-smallest sprocket. I’ve seen mixed opinions about whether that’s normal or not since these combinations are not supposed to be used anyways.

Am I being paranoid? I haven’t dared to take it for a test ride yet.

Yes, Shimano would like about a millimeter above the chain ring to the front derailer. You can find tune to try to make less rubbing when you’re in small and small but again those like you have read are not necessary to be in because you could just shift to the larger chain ring and adjust the rear derailer.

  2. Search the derailleur model number and there will be an installation guide doc on the Shimano website. Just go through that. AI is useless.

  3. Solid example of AI having absolutely no idea what it’s talking about. Stop asking it things. Read the manual yourself.

Also, I feel like the sticker could not possibly be more clear. Chainring teeth go between the lines.

  4. It looks like it’s setup ok.

And are you talking about crosshaining ( small gear front an rear by size )? It’s bad for the chain. Google why you shouldn’t crosschain. On tiagra you can adjust the derailleur a halve step so it doesn’t rubb with the derailleur by tapping the lever to go to the big chainring slightly. Cues, according to google, doesn’t have that option?!?!?

    I don’t have Cues

  5. It’s most likely fine. As you said yourself, you should not be riding the chain when it’s at an extreme angle (like small ring + smallest gear). Running it diagonally will create rub and wear.

Just go for a ride, you’ll be on the big ring 90% of the time anyway (unless you live in the hills or something).

I’ve got the same bike, it’s great 👍

    Endurace Allroad user here.

The sticker is fine and the gap is fine.

In general, you shouldn’t have the small cog with the smallest gears, and vice versa, the big cog with the biggest gears, it will cause cross chaining.

Your bike should be set up fine as it came. Go out and test ride it and run through the gears.

Look at the sticker, It’s pretty clear.
And you are not supposed to use the small ring in the front with the smallest cog in the back…
