Went cold turkey on fast food and alcohol last summer due to some bad blood work and high BP. I’m down 44 lbs and cholesterol is down 18 pts. Haven’t felt this good in a decade. I let things get out of control during the COVID years and finally did something about it. Goal is 219 by end of 2026. Like a lot of dads, I neglected my health for a long time, but cycling helped me turn it around. And aside from the weight loss and health benefits, I’ve truly fallen in love with cycling. I rarely let a day go by without at least doing a short ride around the neighborhood and I’m looking forward to riding in El Tour de Tucson (my first century) in November.

I love the positive vibes I get from the cycling community and am grateful for all of you!

  1. Way to go! Tucson would be my winter spot if I could afford to be a snowbird, so many miles of bike paths down there, have fun!

What bike did you get that was rated to support you at your heavier weight, and how did you deal with the Crotch Obliteration Device that is a bike saddle when you’re heavy?

I was 365lb, goal weight was also 220, I got down to 290lb with diet alone because basically every exercise I wanted to do (including cycling) had a weight limit of 250-275, and now I’m back up to 310 and I never did get light enough for a bike.  I tried some cheap bikes I was too heavy for, and the things barely rolled and the saddles did unspeakable things to my nether regions.

I rode a Kona Sutra LTD. Its weakest point is the rims, but it’s really been fine. Just get a steel frame.

  4. Damn that’s a good amount of weight in a short time. Keep it up and get a MTN bike next. Mtn biking opened up a whole other level of fitness gains. Legs were beastly end of last season
