Sorry for the low quality, bike is not mine.

My friend is riding this Canondale bike with Zipp carbon wheels and I'm concerned about the state of the front wheel. She bought the bike used and apparently the seller told her that it's just a swelling and not a crack, but it does look like it's started to crack towards the valve. Swelling exists on both sides.

I'm don't know much about racing bikes and carbon material but is this normal or should she be worried?

I see some stuff posted on here and everyone says don’t ride it but I look at it and say I would ride that no concerns. The wheel you posted i would not ride.

Carbons extremely dangerous when it gets weak.
A carbon wheel being weak so even more dangerous.

    Don’t ride that.

If that fails it’ll just instantly pop and she will feel the bike collapse under her.. carbon failure has lead to deaths of riders.

Contact the manufactorer don’t let them know you bought it used and get it replaced.

  3. Hello darkness my old friend. Carbon fiber couldn’t mend. My inner tube, it is leaking. Weekend plans no longer seeking. The bike! Goes back in, to the shop. Paid a lot. To get anoooother, Zipp wheel.

I recon your capacity to ride that wheel is directly proportional to how much you can deal with the situation where you’re suddenly using your face as a brake, directly on the road. Not so much for me thanks. ☺️

That’s f*cked. The carbon part is not just an aero fairing, since the spokes are attached directly to it instead of being attached deeper in the rim on the aluminium part, like some mavics. The rim lost basically all it’s structural integrity where the “swelling” is. Tell her to not ride this wheel at all
