“Projects” to that extend _is_ in fact hoarding. Especially considering those are basically the same frames.

I am baked, but it looks like the purple/pink one at the back is twice the size of the others haha

  3. Yeah. I’d sell these and use the proceeds for my main ride. You don’t need 4 slightly different Rockhoppers.

Either when you don’t build them or when you have three frames that serve the same purpose with no intention to ride them regularly

  5. I grab cheap completes when I find them and usually build them up for specific friends! It quenches the thirst of the hunt, gives you an outlet to tinker on a project, and then can be gifted to someone you hope to get into to xbiking 🙂

So many women I’ve dated haven’t ridden a “good” bike and so they are a bit hesitant so I build them a unique cheap 80s cruiser and it totally changes their mindset on bikes

I think the real problem here is that there are so many of these peak 90’s bikes that are becoming available as the boomers die off. It’s probably going to get easier to get them before they all disappear.

Combine that with the fact that most folks don’t have a good sense for what can last and you have a huge surplus on your hands. When folks who do understand what makes a bike last see good bikes go for cheap they can’t help but save them. Especially when, as a society, we have largely lost the skills or desire to make more.

Enjoy nabbing them while you can, get them into good hands, because some day they won’t be so available. Stop fetishizing your “bike addiction” 😝. Bike mechanics get a pass on having lots of bikes.

  7. To answer some of the comments:

    – I don’t care about the size, I care about the state of the bike. If the frame is in good shape and is cheap, I don’t hesitate to grab em

    – I don’t build them for me. I build them for friends looking for a cheaper, custom build. I usually find someone that will buy the bike before starting a build so I don’t end up with full bikes not selling or underselling on marketplace.

    – I don’t want to flip bikes for the money. I don’t make a profit out of these. I could, but I won’t. Making bikes accessible is very important to me, hence why I buy them when they’re cheap. I know someone will benefit from it as some point.

  9. I mean I wouldn’t be able to say no to that stumpjumper. That paint is awesome.
