“Feeding Capes is rather like stoking a human furnace.”
Geoff Capes welcomed Michael Delahaye into his home back in the summer of 1976 as he prepared to participate in the shot put at the Montréal Olympics. There, he saw the stockpiles of food required to fuel Capes’ 12,000-calorie, high-protein daily diet, dutifully prepared by his wife, Jill.
Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, Wednesday 9 June, 1976.

I just realized he was pressing that weights behind him. Forcefully. Made me sit up straight. Love all the comments about him I feel proud of him on behalf of his family friends and fans even though I didn't kw of him growing up in nz
Feeding capes is like stoking a human furnace…..😂
He was his wife's full time job 😅
His bog must've withstood some punishment…..
Good on Jill
What a constipated man he must have been.
sounds expensive
This man's body and face and 80s children's TV turned me gay 😅
❤️
Colen buster
His wife was never out of that same kitchen I bet.
He's only 27!
Show me a picture of his doodie….. SHOW ME THE DOODIE!!!
If he burned 12000 calories a day,
why was he so fat?
Sorry but he doesn't look fit or big at all he needs to cut back on the red meat
Funny how he doesn't know what's good for him back then
long Beach
Jill is kind hot
He had to have been crapping out straight semi digested food like sharks crap out living fish. Try not eating so much! I think it was a mental illness.
Imagine cleaning out his stables
My uncle was a D1 college (American) football player in the 70s. Hes told me how he and all the other linemen on the team would eat like this most days during the summer practice season. He was on scholarship so the school paid for it, i cant imagine the price. Night before gamedays theyd have all you can eat spaghetti to load up on carbs for the game. Hed eat 3 full plates and a bunch of garlic bread sticks. Hes in his late 60s now and still healthy as a horse bc he managed to eat more sensibly after his athletic career was over. Most of the others like him continued to eat big after sports and became obese and died young of heart disease and what not.
I'd bet Jill's sense of smell was burned out after all of Geoff's protein farts.
built by milk that’s the way
Ive got ten children, as you do.
That’s so much sugar 😂
That's like 1000 dollars today…
That diet is not going to end you well!
The toilet must’ve taken a hell of a battering after that lot😳
Who is he?
He lived close to the school I worked in. He often popped in to say hello. A lovely, quiet man. Loved his budgies.
He lived until 2024, passed at age 75. Probably loved longer than most because he stayed off the Gear. He and Jill divorced in 1982, 6 years after this report.
well exaggerated daily food intake to a gullible audience of the day
Just started Ozempic
And now I can only I dream of eating like that again 😉 lol
Ah … the halcyon days of youth.
This guy is very impressive and all, but for the pride of England I'd pick Ron Obvious – the first man to jump the English channel.
There is no way that he was burning 12000 calories a day
God help his toilet 🚽
Oh my goodness, that’s 2 weeks of food for me and my husband
I wonder if the executives at Yellow Pages used to have nightmares about Jeff getting into their factory and causing chaos.
Mr Capes was a national treasure. My late dad used to train with him not to Britain strongest capacity but oit of fitness… all round diamond bloke..
