I’m not a mechanic, but I’d take cassette off and check hub ratchet mechanism
A lot of cheaper thru axle hubs do use cup and cone bearings, I’d start by taking it off the bike and seeing if that play is present in the hub when off the bike. If it is, time to start disassembly and service. You will need cone wrenches
