Hey good bike people! I have this 90s Marin which has a bit of surface rust etc. I’m not too bothered about a perfect finish, and showing a bit of age is all good. I’m considering trying to clean up some of these bits and rust treat them, just to tidy up a bit.
Is it worth the effort? Will it actually come out looking better? If so what is the best method to tidy up bits like this.
Thanks 🙏

Watching for updates. I’ve got a couple spots I’m worried about as well.
Just did some similar spots on a Trek Multitrack. What I did was soak them for a while using kitchen towels soaked in vinegar, then pretty sparingly went at it with a steel scourer. It will take the paint off but only in spots, then you can keep going to get back to good metal. At that point you could use a rust converter, but I just went over the top with some clear nail varnish. Mine’s supposed to be a beater bike so I figured I wouldn’t try to hide it, you could colour match the paint with nail varnish/car paint bottles, but I don’t know if it’s ever going to look great without a full respray. Helped to cover up the stray scourer marks anyway. Plus with the clear stuff I can keep an eye on how it develops.
