Hi all! I am hoping to buy a bike for my husband for his birthday, but I have a tighter budget (400 max) so I’m looking at used bikes on facebook, as we don’t really have a bike coop in my town. This would be his first adult bike, and he is 5’11. I would like for him to have something comfortable, smooth, and that has a fitness capacity, although it would be used mostly for leisure on bike trails.

I have heard Trek is a good brand as well as Giant, but not sure what models to go for versus to avoid for what I’m looking for, and what brands would best fit the above. Also not sure what is a good deal.

Your expertise would be so so appreciated! I’d really like him to have something he will enjoy 🙂

Avoid suspension on bikes like these. It doesn’t actually add any benefit for smooth trail riding but it does add a lot of weight and something to go wrong.

Sizing is the most important thing really, at 5’11 you’ll probably want an L but it’s definitely worth taking him along for a test ride if possible.
