  1. The tire is probably fine with a simple patch.  Honestly, I’d try a local bike shop and explain your situation, maybe someone will help you out. A basic tube can be found for like $7 and if this is your mode of transit then it’s probably worth it.  

  2. This looks like a cruiser / around town bike ( not a racing bicycle). It is repairable. Clean any rough areas on the inside of the tire where the nail penetrated ( a small piece of HD or duct tape might yield extra insurance). install a new tube (ideal) or patch yours if a new one is not possible.

    You’ve got this – if you have a patch kit you can be riding again quickly.

    My fat tire bike had paper thin tires and tubes. It seemed to attract thorns and new tubes were expensive 10yrs ago. Each tube was patched multiple times with no issues.

    The nail is totally fixable, the tire…. Not so much. Once you get into the side wall it’s less fixable.

    Look for a bike co-op in your area or an Optimist’s club. They usually help people with used parts, including tubes, tires and wheels.
