This is my 1996 Specialized Stumpjumper and it’s a work in progress. Just picked up this wheelset today and it rips! Halo T2s feel super solid. Rear hub is a synergy cantilever and sounds like a beehive! It was previously fitted with a Marzocchi Bomber fork but opted for the rigid fork, simply just to try it, and I don’t hate it. The steerer on the bomber was arguably too short. I like the look and ride of the bomber, but I also just bought a specialized pizza rack for cheap and the rigid fork is better suited for that addition. Right now she’s brakeless. I ditched the v brakes and am looking for a reasonable set of discs, problem is I don’t know how I could make a disc work in the rear of this frame. It’s coming along nicely, I love it so far, and of course I thought you guys would appreciate the build!

  1. When you get to the part of your research where you find bolt-on disc brake adapters, just ignore that part and skip to getting tabs welded on.

  2. Just use some v-brakes. They can be tuned to be plenty powerful. Hopefully they aren’t disc specific wheels.

  3. Just so you know, if you REALLY want to go deep in the paint, Magura did make hydraulic rim brakes. They weren’t super popular as they were heavy and riders tended to crush their rims on accident applying too much brake. I’m not sure, but I believe they were originally intended for BMX bikes. Idk how to buy them now, but can confirm they exist. A buddy had a set back in the 2010’s but never installed them.
