In the last year i got 6 Trek’s. 750 euro’s in total. Gear 0. Clothes acceosires 0. Tools maybe 50. It doesnt have to be expensive if you dont want it to be.

You got really good prices on a lot of stuff! It’s kind of scary to see how it adds up even if you’re getting good deals.

Nearly $20k on just the bikes, don’t want to think about clothing / gear / parts / tools / event fees and travel etc. Hardly a dime on labor though, proud of that.

In the last year? Total – bikes, maintenance, parts, clothing, travel related to cycling (such as to events)? Easily over $10k. Worth it.

40 yrs at the same bike/xc ski shop with a family of 4 including purchase of 30 bikes. They tell me I have spent over $100,000.

  7. LOL I’ve spent a lot of money since it’s been almost 30 years of real bikes as a hobby. And I tend to keep bikes for a long time. I currently own two Trek MTB’s that cost $5k each. I also own two other non-Trek bikes. Over the years I’ve owned at least a dozen other bikes; some got upgraded parts during my ownership, and all need regular maintenance. I do most of my own work and have a lot of tools but have paid for a Trek service twice because I was lazy.

  8. I worked for a bike company and could pull the numbers that my coworkers and I spent on gear. It was hard to tell because I had items in there for family but either way, we as employees spent a lot of our paychecks and reinvested it back into the company via bikes, parts, and accessories 🫨

  9. Far more, hence I’ll plead the 5th in case my wife ever finds my Reddit account.

Not enough. Lol! Just kidding. Too much to count. Then again I always negotiate on price and do all my own work. Picked up this 2016 Emonda SL6 for $250 Usd. 2 new tubes and a tune up; $18. I also picked up a 2014 Trek Domane Carbon for the same price. Both coin tapped and structurally safe; score. Have to sell this though. Seat post mast is 58cm at it’s shortest. I could ride it with the balls of my feet or standing up. Or I could cut the mast and put a shorter saddle post. The mast is part of the frame though. I’ll leave it as is.

  11. Probably like 7-8k so far, it’s easy to let it add up with how centered this sport is with consumerism. I’m very happy with my road/mtb/zwift set up at that price and don’t see myself spending much more other than maintenance stuff or some new clothing as things wear out.

  12. Around 3,5k EUR on bikes. Perhaps a thousand on clothing and shoes. Maybe another thousand on tools, spares, tires etc.

  13. The big question is compared to what. It’s a more expensive sport than running, but it’s not as expensive as motorcycles or sports cars or skiing or skydiving or watch collecting or PC gaming. And it compares favorably to gym memberships in terms of lower recurring expenses.

I do not ever want to go on record answering this (especially if my wife could ever see it) 🤣🤣
