Ooooooh, The Lecht! I hit that bugger 210km into 'Day 11' of my challenge at the start of June (after hours of headwind!) – it was unbelievably windy up there, and the sketchiest 'easy' descent I've ever done! Absolutely stunning place though, I've got to get back.

Hi Kate love your videos, I’ve actually done those climbs on a tour and to do them and then do them the other way the same day is very impressive! I do unfortunately have a comment to make about parking and sleeping anywhere in Scotland is not permitted!! Right to roam is for walkers , cyclists, kayaker’s etc, there is no wild camping with a motorised vehicle.(No, you cannot park and sleep just anywhere in Scotland, as it is illegal to sleep in a campervan or motorhome in most areas under the Land Reform Act 2003)

Great video Katie. I take it you stayed in the Glen Nevis camp site. At the bottom of Ben Nevis. I’ve stayed there a few times. If you did, just further up the road is where they filmed Braveheart with Mel Gibson, and if you drive a few miles up the road, where the road ends, there’s a path which is part of the West Highland walk and takes you up a valley with a waterfall at the top. It's atrocious how people abandon such heavenly havens. To cluster around overcrowded cities full of all manner of pollution. And that's why I love cycling, where you build your body, meditate, appreciate nature e.t.c
That's not wild camping, and the right to responsible access doesn't extend to vehicles. There's no "Right to Roam".
So much gravel within a stone's throw of the roads that you rode, I live about six miles from the Lecht (pronounced with a T) which is lucky for me as that means I can ride out from home without having to park in a lay-by or carpark which are all now covered in human excrement and stink of piss and greasy grey water on account of people's mis-interpretation of our access law. Next time, and everyone IS welcome (there's so much space), try out the gravel tracks between Tomintoul and Braemar or up Glen Avon (swim at the Linn of Avon, my favourite), or go from Corgarff castle into Inchrory, so many ways to get away from the pollution and campervans choking up the roads. So much wilderness and true wild-camping opportunities abound. 🙏
Hi Katie, loved watching that, Cairngorms are fantastic. You mentioned a lack of circular routes, next time your up here bring a gravel bike, opens up loads of options if your confident off road. Look at Tomintoul to Braemar via Loch Builg, for a start, returning via the Lecht. Loads more options, Markus Stitz has a good guidbook
Highest paved road is Lowther Hill, 60m higher than Cairnwell. Closed to cars but you can cycle up.
Finally just getting to see this! I have got to attempt The Lecht now after watching this, I have a few routes in the Cairngorms I want to take on (next year now) but this is now on the list. Keep up inspiring Katie! 🐵
That's my neck of the wood. I just started cycling so I am defo going up those hills this summer. By the way, it is Lecht with a strong H and a t in the end, like the Scottish word loch. (c is silent)
