Dilemma

Couldn’t edit so reposting

So I bought a new bike with plans to sell my old one. Both Hightowers. Old one is a Carbon CC frame (2022). I decided to get the old one ready to sell in the spring and noticed a gouge in the rear triangle. Santa Cruz offered me a crash replacement because they don’t have those rear triangles anymore. They said unless there are cracks or damage to the carbon weave it should be safe.

Soooo, I’m trying to decide whether to get a replacement frame and sell with that frame, sell as is, or maybe get a different model frame (they offered this since I just bought another HT). Not sure how much I can get for a 2022 Hightower Carbon CC with this gouge; if u can get $2k, that’s the route I would prefer. Mix of X01 and GX Eagle parts.

Very very tempted to get a Megatower but would need a new fork (or maybe just air shaft) and shock. Wife probably would not be thrilled and I don’t really need it.

Thoughts?

  1. No idea what I’d do in your shoes, but with the current second hand market for bikes, you will be selling that replacement at a loss.

  2. omg the exact same thing happened to my friend last year! she ended up going with the replacement frame and it made selling so much easier.

  3. Guess depends on the costs of the replacement frame and the damage to the triangle. If it is just cosmetic and the carbon is fine then I would just patch it up with some primer and paint and sell as it is.

If there are no coats to the replacement frame, go that route. I can see a new frame will probably sell better than a beat up one.

I think trying to get $2000 for that with the gouge and it being 2022 model year is optimistic

Take the discounted megatower new frame. Build it up over time. You could do an epoxy and glazing putty fix and repaint but that’s expensive to do right. If you don’t use a flexible urethane coating or equivalent, the pant may just crack as the cs do flex.

If it were me I would take the new mega frame and transfer your new parts to that along with a decent fork, like a .
Z1 even. Put everything else on the new HT you already bought with the fork that came on that, and sell it. Sell the old gouge frame as is to recoup some cost and just ride a mega. But that bike suits my trails better than the HT. You may only want the HT do your riding.
