I was replacing a flat on my front wheel in the pouring rain when I came across this happening on the back wheel. bad luck today!!
The inner tube feels like it's bulging and is deformed within the tire. It's visibly wonky and this must have happened in the last few minutes. Clearly I need a new tyre anyway but I have no idea what's going on here. Rides fine but I'm scared it's gonna pop.

Yeah, your tire is fucked. Some of the inner casing and structure is damaged or worn away, so the air pressure in the tube is deforming the tire. The air pressure is always going to strain the weakest parts of its container, and that’s what you’re seeing.
Your tire is rusting.. What a strange thing.
The pressure from the tube is able to push out at the sides because the tire isn’t able to keep shape, probably because you need to replace your tire lol
Tyre surface so worn that the structural threads have been exposed, likely rotting and weakening them, causing them to tear.
The tire casing is worn thru and failing. It’s bulging to one side bc chances are the tube isn’t being supported much anymore in that spot. The tube will pop soon. But yo that’s properly thrashed. Got my very first gator skin down to having a hole I could put a finger through. But yeah that looks like it might be more of a blow-out than a flat. If you can make it to a shop without skidding too much, you can always send the thing to Valhalla in the parking lot when you get there.
Tires are cheap
Accidents are not
The redthread of death 🤯
You probably stopped fast once or twice. Sadly bike tires and much more temporary than car tires.
“What’s happening here?”
The natural and expected consequences of skid stopping.
You answered your own question… you need to replace your tire. When the structural integrity is compromised, the 100psi in that tube is gonna start doing weird things to it.
Are you riding 48×16 by any chance?
