The history of the Sheppey Light Railway (1901 – 1950) on the Isle of Sheppey off the north Kent coast in the Thames estuary.

The Sheppey Light Railway Greenway is creating a walking and cycling route from Queenborough to Leysdown using where possible the route of the railway.

  1. The SLR, like the Allhallows-on-Sea branch and the Lydd-New Romney realignment, was an attempt to encourage resort development on the Kent coast. All soon failed, though Sheppey has a downmarket tourist trade of sorts.
