Looks super duper
I love your infectious enthusiasm, the bike looks gorgeous.
Brilliant !
Do I need to? No
Do I want another bike? Oh YES
😂
Loving the new paint job, makes the bike look brand new again 👍👍👍
A lovely looking refresh 👌 Need to ditch that silver headset spacer though 😜
That's a superb paint job…….and the assembly is pretty good as well !
Thats a super refurb. I bought a 2021 Genesis Croix de Fer frameset and built it up with grx 2 x11. Handbuilt wheels. Sept 2021 cycled Lejog. Heavy beast but very comfy and stable. A keeper. Im sure your customer will be thrilled. ❤
Another area of improvement when refurbishing a bike is a quality bottom bracket, such as an Enduro, or a headset from the likes of Chris King.
I have a Genesis Croix de Fer 725 frame. Lovely bike, very stable and comfortable to ride. It's now fifteen years old and I think it will last forever! That's obviously a good thing and there's no need for me to buy a new replacement bike…
I dont, but i do, every 18 months using the Cycle2Work scheme my employer runs. I sell the old one once the new one arrives. A bit like leasing cars I suppose.
Very nice! I do suspect it is a QR frame? that would honestly make me doubt the choices, although nothing wrong with QR, but not on disc brake frame IMO. Also, those stem bolts could do with a refresh (some anti rust spray) or just fresh ones.
Magnificent! But elephant in the room, total cost of refurb?
V Nice👍🏻👍🏻
I bought a 2010/11 white Croix de Fer 9 speed last summer and set off down this upgrade route (on a much more modest path) replacing/upgrading where and when I can. It is already a delight to ride and I doubt I will ever part with it. A new set of wheels are on my wish list as a next buy. Super to see your enthusiasm for this project. I am sure the owner will love it.
I inherited a Dawes Super Galaxy. I’ve upgraded the wheels, gearing and bottom bracket and it’s excellent. I’m hoping to do LEJOG on it later this summer. It’s very comfortable and goes well. Thanks for your films.
Thats a very nice machine – I'm extremely envious. I have been riding a CDA 10 for nearly 3 years – I love it, but I bought it on impulse and regret not doing some research because I think I would have got a CDF instead.
This is not buying a new bike. This is making a new bike.
Excellent video however what was the budget and expenditure? The tiagra 4600 10 speed upgrade to grx 11 speed, hand built wheels and respray were lovely. We're there any other upgrades to finishing kit – handle bars, bar tape, stem or saddle? Does look circa £1,500+
The bike looks great.
Always nice to start with a known quantity. Nice paint job. Refreshing is better than buying new.
I plan to do just that to ‘94 Kona Cindercone, strip frame and respray it myself from metallic bronze to Autumnal Green (Subaru colour), build the wheels, change 3×7 to Alfine 8 with Deore v-brakes.
I think that blue was a standard CDF colour at some point. Did a similar upgrade with mine, GRX groupset, tiagra shifters (10 speed) custom wheels etc. Definitely the way forward when a new bike is out of reach.
Doesn't everybody upgrade their bikes and replace worn components as necessary?
What was the cost of all the new parts ?
I find bikes should really be built up from framesets. It's next to impossible for an off the shelf bike to have the correct length & rise of stem, correct width/ reach/ drop of handlebar, the required length of crank, a saddle that suits the new owner, the correct layback/ inline seatpost, the correct chainring sizes, the correct cassetts range, etc. Myself and my friends custom built mountain bikes 30 years ago, and now as middle-aged roadies, we're doing the same with road bikes. Well done rejuvenating this bike for your customer. It looks absolutely brilliant, and she'll have something quite unique on the roads. She'll probably enjoy cycling it more, as it's unique to her too. As a kid, I worked as a bike mechanic. It wasn't unusual to repair 20+ year old touring bikes, where almost all the original bits had been removed, or swapped out. Bikes like that had such character.
Reynolds 725 is a great road bike tubing set. This bike would also be a good road bike for endurance and leisure riding, with a set of lightweight tires (700C X28mm) and wheels. The lower gearing of the GRX will be useful in getting up even steep grades. It's also a great bike to travel with because of the durable frame, its many mounts, its relatively relaxed geometry, and its ability to be serviced and packed up small by removing the fork. An excellent do-it-all or first bike.
What i like less is the cabling outside the steel tubes.
