First post didn’t show up photo and details for me so reposting. I’ve dealt with lots of shifters but haven’t seen these weird dangly secondary cables like these shifters have. It’s on an older Specialized Expedition comfort bike. Can’t tell if it’s related to the plastic posts in the center of the bars.

There used to be a “dashboard” that they went in to and would show you what gear you’re in. They’ve since been discontinued and don’t serve a purpose. The posts are what held the display. Google Shimano “Ci-Deck”

They connect to an ”information deck” – it would mount between those 2 things on the bars. It looks like just 2 dials to show what gear you are in – one for front and one for rear.
I want one of these on my Lauf! Never seen one pass through the shop, ever. What was the time period?
