  2. Okay so

Congratulations on figuring out that the angle grinder dismembers, most things made of metal. A welder uses an angle grinder to not only clean up and polish their work, but in the event of a mistake – to remove the portion of the weld, that must be redone. So most, if not all locks will be undone by an angle grinder.

The function of a bike lock is supposed to be to deter your run of the mill thieves. When the idea of the ulock came about, it was still the consensus that anyone employing a power tool or a large bar // pipe for leverage would be dealt with by local security or police, or the property owners themselves.

Even in high trust societies, we do have some thievery occurring. Of course. The problem is, politicians have introduced so many individuals. Intent on thievery that the concept of a bike lock would rightfully be called outdated today.

Instead of doing a video defeating bike locks. Instead making a psa telling people that if they're expecting a bike lock to protect anything, without a pair of eyes on it, it's just wishful thinking. Instead, you should focus on deporting the people bent on thievery, and incarcerating those native born who make such thefts their livelihood.

  3. Unfortunately thieves will ignore the lock and cut through the rack itself like butter, then shoulder it off on their own bike. Like the old adage goes: "Chain is only as strong as its weakest link."

  4. If I was stealing a bike and see anything more resistant then the bike stand itself. I am cutting the bike stand. Why bother cutting a lock lol.

  5. @bikelockwiki does the plastic housing breaking off the DX1000 for example reveal easy entry for a thief? I can't imagine letting a thief see/open to the underneath of the plastic cover would decrease security. asking because i'm interested in it

  6. just looked up Kryptonite Diamond Std — $349… costs almost as much as a simple daily commuter bike. But I guess it is worth it if you have one of the high end bikes.

  7. terrible test. i dont know why these type of test NEVER use a REAL world situation, such as an lock, around the actual bike WHILE trying to cut it. No one is ever going to hang just a bare lock (with nothing on it) by itself and no theif would ever see value in it to attempt to steal it. You wouldnt get that much play or wiggle room if the lock was attached to the bike.

  8. It's great to have an angle grinder resistant bike lock but when the bike racks are not, it's really pointless. Thieves will simply attack the bike racks.

  9. Some good through testing please do more stuff like tools.

Whenever I try to find reviews or tests online now they are just AI generated nonsense.

  10. You know chainsaw safety pants use stringy fabric to basically clog the chainsaw to stop it would this technology also work on angle grinders?

  11. This entire process must have cost a fortune! Plus, all the effort and video editing, etc. Top notch, thank you! I keep the Kryptonite in my backpack :-]

  12. Here is an idea: when ranking bike locks, you should base on the time it take to steal your bike. Include the time it take to switch the discs, double the time if the lock need two cuts. This would be the most intuitive answer for lock buyers.

  13. I bought a rather expenisive E-MTB in 2017 and a colleague got one too. He received his 3 days before me and went with a rather chap lock. Suffice to say his bike was stolen before I received mine.

I on the other hand bought 2x Kryptonite locks, one U-lock and a heavy chain lock. Still have the bike today, locked multiple times in the same location. 300 euros well spent. Still have the locks also, fully functional

  14. I've computed a score with an alternative method. All explanations below.
    1) The resulting scores (higher is better):

1650 – Kryptonite NY Diamond STD
    332 – Litelock X3
    289 – Hiplock D1000
    218 – Hiplock DX1000
    95 – Litelock X1
    93 – Abus Super Extreme 2500
    63 – Skunklock Carbon
    42 – Onguard Rocksolid
    15 – Squire Stronghold
