A quiet night, a wolf spider with a cargo of unborn lives, and the soft return to civilisation. We pass silent villages, an abandoned lignite mine, and a lake born from scars in the earth. Strawberry fields tempt us, helicopters circle above, and history suddenly grips us at a small roadside memorial from the Second World War.
We ride on with heavy thoughts and light wheels, carrying the past for a while and then letting it go again. Just before reaching the Rhine, salvation appears in the form of cherries and apple juice. Refuelled and sun-soaked, we roll into Andernach, welcomed by tropical plants and a smiling host.
A day of small creatures, big history, and long kilometres.

Loving your journey, such wonderful farmland and big skies👍
😆😅❤
Mankind has proven it cannot handle power and money.
Thank you for the history lessons you are sharing. I am from the USA and am terribly saddened by what our president is doing today. Those of us who didn't vote for him are protesting but are also sometimes baffled as to what we can do to change this horrible situation.
