The bike I want to take on an upcoming double century is running more 'trail' width wheels at 27mm ID. That bike has been seeing more and more pavement lately between commuting and training routes. This trip coming up is like 90% road too. So I'm looking to change up from the 2.35 Mezcals I have now to something a bit faster and less off-road oriented.

I have another more light-gravel/road focused build in mind this summer, but I don't think I'll have that bike complete before this ride. Help me determine if the 54mm Vittoria Terrenos will be ok on this wheelset or if I need to just sort another setup completely.

  1. I think they’ll do good.

The other alternative from Vittoria would be using a 50mm Terreno T10.

  2. It’ll be fine, I’ve ran 50c terreno’s on 25mm rims and never even questioned it.

Assuming you’re not riding hookless rims, tubeless, at low pressure, my understanding is (barring documentation from the rim manufacturer), as long as your tire width isn’t less than your rim width, you’ll be fine.

I see you got a Jones H Bar and what looks like a Wilde Supertramp. If I am correct, may I ask you how tall you are and what stem length/rise you went with? I am building a Tumbleweed Sunliner, which is virtually identical to the Supertramp, and hoping to dial in my stem length.
