Does this look like the rim is cracking? or could just be the Anodized finish? I find it hard to believe hand made wheels with eyelets would crack in under 5 months of daily commuting. (I am 240lbs) and ride on 99% smooth asphalt. These lines appear on drive side spokes same wide with cassette.

That’s a crack in your rim, and it’s not going to get better with age.

Guys is it that I am too heavy at 240lbs for aluminum wheels or something? uuh this is so frustrating I purposely take my time and only choose smooth asphalt for my commute I baby this thing just so it can last as long as possible my commute is FLAT roads so not like I am putting stress on it and climbing hills or anything like that, and here it is just 5 months later cracked OMG.

I have a spare wheel I could use in the mean while but it’s rim brake while my current bike is disc brake, wonder if it would still fit tho? I could use front brake in the mean while if that rare rim brake can work, I almost never use rare brake either and I ride very slow.

Are carbon wheels better? I see Amazon has this Tri Spoke Carbon wheel it’s clincher but again I only ever use front brake. Should I opt for the Tri Spoke Carbon?

you are quite heavy. consider next wheels you buy to be extra strong

That is a crack from tension and metal fatigue. 240 lbs is a lot for a rear wheel to tolerate. You need a custom build with more spokes.

You’re heavy and that’s a skinny high pressure tyre. Consider wider tyres at lower pressure. Also, it looks a bit like a Schwalbe marathon which is a very tough tyre and would likely transmit even more of the bumps into your rim.

  6. Pass that man the butter that one is toast.

On the plus side you now have a perfect excuse to buy yourself those shiny new wheels you have been thinking about.
