Hi there,

Couple of weeks ago I showed interest to travel to Ireland this summer and go from ancient heathen places to the next. I still find the idea to be great, however, what annoys me is the prices for the ferry to go from France to Ireland forth and back. As a couple it would cost about 700€ last time I checked. Although we can afford it, it is quite a contrast to what we are used to. To put it into perspective, we toured France for less than 1200€ a month including the occasional B&B and dining at a Restaurant or two.

Anyhow. The initial idea was inspired by a Album inlay of a band called "Green Lung" on which a crude map of England&Wales depicts heathen sites you can visit (Stonehenge being the most famous one). So that's where the idea came from.

Of course we could just go to England/Wales instead of Ireland and it might be cheaper and easier to get there from Germany the place we live.

But are there similar themed tours you can think of? It doesn't have to be anything "heathen themed" just some vague idea you can use to get from place to place, could be as stupid as going from one nuclear power plant to the next(please no). We are not so much into city hopping, so going from city A to city B won't do.

France we already did last year. Crossing the Alps the year before that, trips to Budapest and more were also made. We want to leave Germany. If possible we really, really, really, really want to avoid flying. We probably have about a month.

Any ideas?

  1. You could check out the EuroVelo 10 – Round the Baltics. Take a train to Rostock, follow the coast east, go round Kaliningrad and take a ferry to Lübeck at Ventspils. Maybe you can give a “teutonic knights” theme, I would skip the Russian part (Köningsberg) though, but both Poland and Lithuania has quite some leftovers from that period (e.g. Malbork castle – [https://maps.app.goo.gl/n18nHYmdRaXnMYbf6](https://maps.app.goo.gl/n18nHYmdRaXnMYbf6) )
Or ferry from Gdansk to Nynashamn (near Stockholm) and cycle back through Sweden. We did a part of that some years ago, I really liked the Polish coast. In Sweden, wild camping is very easy and the lunch-offers are generally really good and cheap (don’t go out for diner, that’s expensive). And talking about Sweden: you could also do DK-NO-SE with a viking theme :-).
