First part of my Great Peru Divide trip, from Huaraz to Huancavelica.
I had spent 10 days acclimatizing in Huaraz (doing the beautiful Huayhuash trek), but cycling at altitude is still hard. The first week or so, every time I got above 4,000m I would get a mild headache and struggle cycling slopes above 5 degrees.
But this part of the world is so beautiful and diverse. I spent half the time wild camping and the other half in really cheap hotels, or would just show up to towns and ask for hospitality. People were really kind, and the landscapes speak for themselves.
Most days I would wake up early, cycle up ~1,500 meters of elevation gain over 6–7 hours to a pass, often get caught in an early afternoon hailstorm, rain or snow, and then descend to camp at lower elevation.

Which bike did you use? And I see that you have a Pinion transmission how is your experience with that is it true that you only have to change the oil once a year and sometimes the belt? Awesome pictures 🙂
Spectacular shots!
