Hello all,

Trying to figure out some things about my bike for an upcoming tour. I have a 2021 fargo with GRX 1×11. Its a good bike, but the previous owner had the carbon fork repaired (in hindsight, maybe shouldnt have bought this specific one, but it happpens) after he put the bolts into it and messed up part of it. That being said, I am worried about bringing this bike on this tour because of the possibility of the repair not standing up to the task.

So i am faced with having to buy a 600 dollar fork. that is quite a lot of money.

There is a cutthroat c grx 810 2x on facebook marketplace in my area for 2300 USD. if im dumping 600 dollars into this bike, part of me is thinking it might be worth it to just go for the cutthroat and try to sell the fargo.

There is also a 100 dollar cutthroat fork near where my brother lives. Would that fork fit on this bike?

Are there other cheaper fork options to consider?

ALSO –

Salsa's website lists the salsa cutthroat c grx 810 2x as 24 lb 3 oz and the salsa fargo apex 1 as 24 lb 8 oz. How is a full carbon bike only 5 oz lighter than a steel bike with a carbon fork? I know the 2x will add some weight, but that seems extreme. do both of those numbers seem right?

My local carbon repair dude always puts way more material in on his repairs, they end up stronger than brand new. Your results may vary. That being said, there are crashes that can destroy any frame, repaired or not.

Fargo is the original GOAT. I always laugh when I remember that Salsa made the Cutthroat to win the GDMBR, and the year they put a sponsored rider on a Cutty, a dude on his Fargo won. 😂.

In all seriousness, both are great bikes. I rode a Cutty before buying a Fargo. The Cutthroat frame has a bigger triangle. But if you have concern about a carbon fork… now you have a full carbon frame.

I love my metal bikes. If/when I break my carbon FS I plan to buy the metal version.

Any chance one of the surly forks could fit on the Fargo? They are chromoly so you won’t have to worry about carbon breaking and they are significantly cheaper than 600 bucks
