  1. It’s a cute colour, but perhaps doesn’t look the best with your bike. Black enamel worked great for me when I restored a rusty rack, a winter later still not chipping no nothing. Unlike the fancy colored spray paint I used for the frame, that one is quite resistant. Wont recommend you any brands as they’re probably all the same anyway, just look for metal enamel paint, sand the rack and double coat it leaving a day between coats.

I’d leave the top part as is, the angle grinded studs would look rather ugly and might be sharp if not filed and treated, which is a lot of work for nothing.

If you’re going for aesthetics then by all means cut it, if not then I think it looks great! Plus your stuff won’t fall out so easily, I always had my stuff bouncing around until I got a net for my basket. Other than that are those homemade fenders?? Great build, I froggin love gt triple triangles! I have 2 my self!

    Leave the top half.
This worked for me so say what you will..
Sand (painfully) with 220 grit, spray two LIGHT coats with gray automotive primer (5 mins or 5 hours in between coats) spray three LIGHT coats of black automotive enamel, same timing. Don’t touch it or move it for 2 days.

Funny, I saw you working on this today. Meant to ask what kind of bars you’ve got?

The top is cool, but probably adds a fair amount of weight. I’d cut it unless it better suits your needs to leave it on. Just be sure to leave the little hump attached to the top of the bottom part, on the frontmost edge

Just to give my vote: Paint yes, chop no, wood slats yes. And if you would rather have an origin8 messenger pizza rack thing, trade with me. I kinda dig it.

If you have the skills, go for it. Nothing more satisfying than modifying components on your own. Since retiring in 2018, that’s been my major past time with my 19 bikes. None are stock. Many have tweaked parts. Great feeling when the mods come out good.

  8. After all the work and materials (unless you have them already) I would’ve just bought a new basket. But if you love it, go for it!

I’d say paint and chop. And also somehow turn that front notch into a cup holder.

Leave it how it is and buy the rack you actually want. sell this weird rack to someone who thinks it is cool to fund it
