  1. Let's just be honest if you need a guide your not a good Hunter… I've never guided but live in a part of Canada where there is hundreds of people a year on guided hunts so seen many. Honestly I don't think any of them would do good in the bush alone, can't track and the wolves would probably pick them clean within 24 hours.

  2. good short, – and yep, practice (regularly) with what u plan to use, in something close to the enviroment that you plan to use it, or prepare for "surprises".
thing is, a 300 win mag is still "just" a 30 cal, if you want to seriously stretch out, and train for it, fine, but if not and the expected shots are inside 300 meters, why not just bring a 308, or 30-06?
And this is not even going into if the right 7mm or 277 cal etc isnt already enough.

  3. Equipment isn't the problem but having enough practice is. When I got a second hand Ruger American with 308 win, I always flinch before pulling the trigger and cannot manage the recoil properly. The shot flew everywhere. After about 1000 shots of practice, my eyes don't blink at all when firing and can control the recoil. Reliably get smaller than 2 MOA with cheapest Igman ammo up to 200 yards. I expect myself to require another 1000 round of practice if I go up to 300 win mag to reach the same level of accuracy.

  4. How did all of a sudden people become recoil sensitive ? I have no suppression nor brake , .300 Weatherby , 59 years old 5-9 height 177 lbs ! I love my 300 , been hunting since a young lad ! What is up with all hype about recoil ! Get over it or get out of shooting , good grief ! I am sick of all the belly aching !

  5. This is a horrible take. That’s terrible judgement as a guide. You might be right sometimes but other times you might be completely wrong so it’s just your opinion but maybe the dude is a killer and it doesn’t bother him

  6. The kill zone on an elk is three times larger than a deer. A 200 yard shot on a deer is equivalent to a 600 yard elk kill zone. People talking about not being able to hit the elk kill zone at 200 yards are basically saying they wouldnt be able to hit a deer at 75.

  7. What I don't understand is why are manufacturers have got on a kick making 5-7lb lightweight Magnums rifles with 18-22" barrels. Even with a Suppressor, Muzzle break exc majority of hunters will not be accurate with lightweight Magnum rifles. I've been an Outfitter 29 years now. Over the past 5 years 90% of my Clients either wound or miss game that show up with lightweight short barrel rifles. I know this new trend is short barrel lightweight rifles but thats not ethical. When the hunters adrenaline kicks in from Buck Fever and his heart starts racing the crosshairs on that 5-7lb rifle are doing Jumping Jack's all-over the animal. I do know you can put the rifle in a Tripod but 60-70% of the time it's impossible to get a Tripod ready for a shot before the animal is gone. Or you're in areas where a Tripod isn't an option. In my experience rifles that weigh between 8-10lbs with a Suppressor or Muzzle brake is the perfect recipe for success. My clients that show up with a rig in that weight class 95% of them are Successful. Now their are exceptions with the guy's that practice all the time with lightweight rifles have a high success rate but that's only about 10% of my clients. The Majority might shoot their rifle one time at the range to sight in and call it good. This is my personal experience/ Observation from almost 3 decades with Clients.
