just got a second hand bike for very cheap. Everything is working well except the rear gears are not shifting and will always revert back to the second smallest sprocket. The levers doesnt do anything and I suspect the end of the cable is not in its proper place. please help if its anything I can do. i am new here and to the world of cycling in general.

Not the best photo but that doesn’t look right. Might just be the angle of the photo but it looks like the derailleur is at an angle to the hanger and it should be flat no bend at all.
If you don’t know how to work on bikes or don’t yet have your own tools it may be worth your time to pop into a shop and let them have a look they can diagnose quickly. Once you get it working cast your eye towards YouTube channels like Park Tool are a really good easy to follow resource to find out how to work on bikes yourself.
