Hi everyone!
So I'm fairly inexperienced I'm fixing bikes, but I want to learn. Today I wanted to replace my brake cable housing and cables. So naturally I watch Calvin Jones. After the video I think I followed the steps.
So when I went to check if the brakes work, they kind of didn't 😅 At first it feels loose, then there's some resistance, then I clicks and then the brake engaged.
I checked if both ends of the cable are as far as they can go and that the cable is taut.
What am I missing/doing wrong? How can I fix it?
Thanks!!
PS: The video is the front brake, but the rear has the same problem

Outer cable (the housing) not seated properly, and it’s not a good idea to squeeze the brake whilst the wheel is removed, the brake pads don’t have anything to bite on when the disc is absent.
Undo the cable pinch bolt at the caliper, pull on cable. As you pull, redo the pinch bolt
The lever of the caliper has been adjusted too far up the cable, it will spaz out if it isn’t relaxed more.
You need to reset the position of the fixed pad so the other pad doesn’t need to move as much.
Very simple steps for mechanical disk breaks:
Pull the cable tight through the pinch bolt.
Ensure the cable outer is seated properly.
Tighten up the pinch bolt.
Put the wheel in.
