Howdy, myself and u/i_smoke_pineapples just finished this for the cheap bike build off. It’s a 90s nishiki hybrid turned single speed cruiser. We used a rear wheel with a broken 7 speed hub, drum break and a chain tensioner. A seat from an exercise bike my university was throwing out and some cool nitto and sugino that we found after hours of digging through parts in the basement. In order to clean up the rust we took a Dremel and paint to it. Stoked to see what other people came up with. Total cost was like 200cad.

The gold reminds me of kintsugi. My 80s Raleigh has rust on it as well and I decided to keep it on for now but seeing this is inspiring me to do the same. What kind of paint did you use?
What exactly is the CBBO? I’ve been seeing posts about it and I’m still not sure if it’s an actual event or just a state of mind that we all enter when it’s winter and we don’t want to ride our nicest bikes.

My first “road bike” was a dark blue with gold trim Nishiki International. I was 14 and I loved that bike.
