Managed to get a G3ared(formerly Efneo) GTRO 3-speed internal-geared crankset for my Paratrooper, to eventually pair with a Rohloff hub for a "do-it-all" folding bike; with a climbing/"off-road" range(38t chainring; 1:1), a road/"normal" range(~54t equivalent; 1:1.43), and a "boost" range(~68t equivalent; 1:1.79). Should be a pretty capable(if a bit impractical) beastie once it's done.
Chain-drive over belt-drive for repairability and availability of replacements(and not modifying the frame). And I've a (also collapsible/folding) trailer to pull for some outings.

When I had a Rohloff there was a minimum input gear ratio that was allowed before you’d start potentially damaging the internals. It’s been a few years so maybe something has changed, but you definitely want to avoid any internal problems with a Rohloff or it’s a heavy paperweight until you send it back for repairs.
Overkill 🤝 Overlap
Woah, cool. Where would one acquire one of these?
When you ask if 42 speeds is too much and [Saint Sheldon rode 63 speeds](https://www.sheldonbrown.com/org/otb.html), then clearly 42 is not too much.
nice one!
next step is pinion rohloff with 18×14 gears for maximum overdrive
3.5 is bananas
