Just picked up a vintage Univega Gran Sprint. It's pretty sweet, Shimano 600, (I think this is the first time I've ever understood why some people love friction shifting,) triple butted chromoly tubing, little diamond cutouts in the lugs, the thinness of which speaks to the quality of the steel!

Anyway it has this little disk or knob that is on the drive side seat stay, maybe 2 & 1/2"-3" above the cassette. Looks like a cable could wrap around it, but no cables route through the area, also never seen anything like it before. .

  1. Logical-Stage-7905 on

Don’t worry. This is actually a part of the bike’s frame.

This metal “tab” is used to hold the chain while the bike’s rear wheel is removed, making maintenance easier. These tabs are usually found on old 90s frames.

  2. A bike wart. Unfortunately your bike has a std. it will have this wart for the rest of its life but it’s not the end of its life.
