They have a tall side and a short side. The short side exposes the axle and everything. But due to gravity, the short side always faces up. What’s the trick to flip them when mounting?
IIRC, when you have the toeclips installed the pedals hand down, and when you get on the bike you need to rake backwards with your shoe (the clip looks like two semi circles with a gap between them for the back of the pedal). If you’re lucky the pedal pops up onto your foot and you just need to tighten the strap to pedal off.
Otherwise, you need to reach down and pull the pedal around so your foot can slide in. Obviously try g this in any reasonable hill is very difficult.
There is a reason why everyone rides clippers these days.
