Hi everyone,
I’m looking for my first carbon road bike and I saw this 2014 Madone 5.2 for sale on marketplace. Bike looks very clean and seems to be in great condition.
The seller is asking $1200. Wondering if that’s a fair price for it, considering its age. Bicycle Blue Book has it valued at $762-$784 for “excellent condition” examples.
Just hoping to get some advice and feedback.
Thank you!

$1200 is crazy talk. I’d say max $600. Lots of great deals on used road bikes out there to be spending more.
That does not look like 2014 group Ultegra. Its an earlier generation fitted. The asking price is steep, I’d say $600-700.
Edit: I see the add says Ultegra 6600 so I was right. The groupset will then be ~20 years old… Seller should never get asking price for this one.
Seems high? It’s a good bike, but probably not much demand for it, as standards and expectations have drastically changed since 2014. I’d offer around $700-$800
I’m somewhat skeptical about this being a 2014.
They stopped using that seatmast shape before that model year. I believe 2011 or 2012 is when they switched from the foiled shape you have here to the round version that was on models in the mid 2010’s.
Trek also began including Ultegra 6700 cranks on the 2010 models and up. This is a prior model.
The OCLV carbon branding looked different by 2014z
I am almost certain this is a 2009 or earlier
Nice bike. Here are my concerns. -Drivetrain looks beat. You will almost certainly have to shell out for new chain, cassette and chainrings $200-300
-Seat mast (not seat post) is the long version, not the stock version. This rider has very long legs. Do you have very long legs? If not, the fit may require you to get a new seat mast ($200-ish) and that saddle is also beat ($100)
-Flo wheelset. Budget, on-line wheels. I think they’re adding this into the price of the bike as an upgrade when it’s not.
-Shifter Hoods and bar tape needs replaced. Which will also necessitate new shift cables ($200)
You’re already $600+ into the bike before you can even ride it. When you figure that into the price you’re closer to what you should be paying. I think $500-600 is fair.
Basically anything non ‘all road’ is dead now.
Old geo, low tyre clearance, rim brakes and dated group
I say this as someone who is struggling to sell a similar bike. I’m in the UK and would post my bike to you if you’re even considering this price because it’s double my listing!
lol. No. It’s a nice bike but it will max tire size at 25mm, it has rim brakes which means only alloy wheels, and tou will never be able to upgrade anything.
$500
This is a bike for a fan of a modern classic who prefers rim brakes. The “harder to find” oldness of it is priced into it. Its too expensive for the average buyer unless you’re really into this era and probably too expensive in general. Nice orange kitty though.
Thanks everyone for the fast replies, I appreciate your help. Looks like i’ll pass on this one, doesn’t seem worth it.
I woulda thought that’s pre 2010’s
Wouldn’t buy it even at $500
I agree that’s not a 2014. I have a 2008 mad one and that looks like the same teardrop seat mast. They only had that shaped seat mast for like two years I think, around 2007-2008. After that the seat mast/cap was round.
