Hi everyone, sorry for the pic taken on the wrong side.
2 years ago I did a 2000km trip with this setup (one with pirate flag). It was very on a budget, having bought only the marathon plus tour and the cheap AliExpress fork bags. The Miss Grape 20L was borrowed and the handlebar harnesses DIYed.
It's a Land Rover Visalia Freelander, mounting a Shimano 14-34 Altus 7×3, Rockshock GPS Metro forks, Tektro v-brakes and Van Rysel hybrid pedals (so bad, screw broke after a week)
In a few months I'm planning to to a 2300km trip in the Balkans and I was wondering where to invest / what to change.
My ideas are:
– rear rack with drybag + zfold mat (saddle bag is too inconvenient, especially if you're short and the saddle is low). I was thinking Tubus Logo for long term investment.
– cheap aerobar for comfort and attachments
– myog full frame bag (bottles on handlebar)
– mountain bike aluminium pedals (please give me good cheap options)
Can you guys give me any feedback on these? Do you think I could/should change more components of the bike like group set or forks? I know it's a 22 years old bike not meant for bikepacking but for now I can't afford to get a proper gravel/touring bike.
Thank you!!

Yes a rear rack / dry bag solution, and shift from front panniers to rear rack panniers.
Full frame bag, and start getting weight lower down on the bike, to lower the centre of gravity. Personally i tend to bikepack with a hydration bladder on my bike, but i realise that’s not for everyone. You could put bottles on feedbags on the bars. Get feedbags anyway, they’re super useful for all sorts!
If you’re carrying extra water due to lack of supply, you could then use front forks for water.
And then you’d have a pretty similar set up to mine!
