I wanted to service my MTB flat pedals, as I had noticed, that the right one was having more resistance than usual and the left one squeaked a little under heavy load.
servicing the left pedal went without any issues, but the right pedal seems to be broken, as the 'core' doesn't unscrew. My theory is, that the outer part (grey Shimano-style pedal lockring) broke off from the threaded piece, that holds the pedal's axle and cartridge bearings. any tips on how to rectify this or at least unscrew it? Do I have any realistic option other than buying a new pedal?
LBS said they don't know how to fix it either, they usually don't even bother with servicing pedals, they just replace them instead.

Those are some cheap generic cube pedals.
I would replace. I have some standard composite e*thirteens and they are super easy to service. Nicely machined cro mo axle, 3 sealed bearings and a rubber seal. One bolt that holds it all together.
Here looks like some plastic cups where you spin so I would guess that they got mashed and pieces of it are inside creating friction
