I don’t think the bottom bracket is supposed to be open like that even for a square taper. Look like you are missing an outside cup. There is nothing stopping dirt/grime into those ball bearings you can clearly see in the picture.

There IS a non drive side bb cup.
It is a little short, but it is doing its job of securing the bb .
The non drive side cup is for a 68mm bb shell, and your bike has a 73mm shell.
While it’s not ideal, it does not pose a safety concern nor will your bb under perform or wear out faster.
It just looks weird.

Normal. Although the cup is screwed in very far. Further than what I am used to.

I don’t know if it’s spec’ed like that from factory or what, but I would be inclined to get a new BB. Looks like a 68mm BB installed onto a 73mm BB shell.
